permanent certificate. And only the 17 of
the universities are gone to their own campuses. According to the law, taking
action against the universities who are not going to their own campus, but the
Ministry has given the extra times again and again.
Education Secretary Mohammad Sadiq said,
"Some of the private universities are doing better, and some universities
have the complaints against them. But the case against them has been taken into
the consideration to take the action. However, we are trying to bring all of
the universities into the structure. It is not possible overnight. But we are
optimistic".
Some of the universities are managing more than
one campus outside of Divisional cities. Some universities have conflicts over
the ownership of the various campuses.
The registration of 15 universities had been cancelled on different
allegations. But they continued to operate through receiving stay orders on the
registration cancellation from the High Court, said Education Minister in a
meeting.
According to a report titled "Private
universities: challenges of good governance and way out" TIB said a section
of officials of the education ministry, UGC, and private universities are
involved in illegal money transactions at different stages - from getting
approval to set up the universities and appoint Vice-Chancellors, Pro-Vice
Chancellors and Treasurers to awarding certificates to students.
Soon after the launch of the report, the education
ministry and UGC sent letters to all the private universities, asking them to
come up with their responses to the allegations. The authorities of the private
universities at the meeting denied being involved in any sort of corruption or
bribery. Some of the ministry officials, however, said they believed none would
agree to disclose corruption in this way.
